New virtual webcam name does not appear on Google Chrome

Google Chrome on macOS

Starting version 76.0.3809.87, Google Chrome has made a few changes that prevent ManyCam Virtual Webcam from appearing on the list of webcam options. The Google team have already confirmed the problem on their end and hopefully they will come up with an update soon. We are also looking for ways to workaround this problem. In the meantime, we suggest using the Brave, Firefox or Opera browsers instead. In case you don’t see ManyCam Virtual Webcam on some websites in Firefox, please refer to the following guide.

ManyCam Beta 7 for Windows

The problem has been fixed in ManyCam 7 Beta for Windows.

After renaming ManyCam Virtual Webcam in ManyCam settings, all apps that use ManyCam’s webcam will require a restart to start displaying the new name on the list of webcam options.

In case of Google Chrome, sometimes it keeps running in the background even after you closed it by clicking on the X window control button, therefore preventing the new webcam name from appearing on the list of webcam options. To resolve this, you will need to properly restart Google Chrome.

The first option is to click on the Chrome icon in the taskbar/system tray, find the Let Chrome run…’ option and click it to disable/toggle the checkmark off.

This can also be done through the browser’s main settings page:

  • Click on the Chrome menu (or press Alt+E)
  • Select Settings
  • Click on the link titled Show advanced settings
  • Under the section headed System untick the box next to Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed

Once this setting is disabled, proceed with restarting the browser.
